How I Rediscovered My Passion for Couture Through the Dressmaking Academy

I first discovered the Dressmaking Academy a few years ago when it was called the Corset Academy. At the time, I had been working in the fashion industry for years but felt a pull back to my first love — eveningwear and couture craftsmanship.

I studied at FIT in New York City, specializing in Eveningwear. My first job out of school was with the luxury brand Morgane Le Fay, where all the dresses were made in-house by the most incredible sewers. It was magical to see a sketch become a muslin, then a pattern, then a finished gown ready for a client.

Although I ended up on the production side — managing fabrics, writing purchase orders, and seeing the entire process from start to finish — I always admired the artistry happening in the draping and patternmaking rooms. I’m forever grateful for that experience; it gave me a strong foundation in how luxury garments are truly made. But my heart was always in creating.

Eventually, I left Morgane Le Fay and was fortunate to be hired by Converse as a Technical Designer for a collaboration with Target. I spent nine incredible years there, working on cut-and-sew knits, swimwear, and sweaters. It wasn’t eveningwear, but it was an amazing opportunity to collaborate with talented designers and a wonderful boss who taught me so much.

When Converse moved their NYC office to Boston, my chapter there came to an end. I decided to start freelancing — and adopted Lily Mae, my little Morkie — one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Having her motivated me to make freelancing work, and I’ve been enjoying it ever since.

Still, after years behind a computer, I wanted to reconnect with my passion for couture dressmaking. That’s when I found Tatiana Kozorovitsky’s Dressmaking Academy, and I was overjoyed.

Tatiana is one of the most generous and authentic teachers I’ve ever encountered. In an industry where knowledge is often guarded like a secret, she shares everything — from corsetry techniques to couture finishes. Her lessons are clear, practical, and empowering.

When I first joined, I signed up for the annual membership. But after seeing the incredible value and how much I was learning, I upgraded to the VIP Lifetime Membership, and I’m so glad I did. It’s truly an investment in my future as a bespoke designer.

Over the years, the Dressmaking Academy has grown tremendously. Tatiana’s son, Vlad, has done a phenomenal job improving the platform and community. He even hosts weekly VIP Zoom meetings, where members from all over the world connect, share progress, and support one another. I always leave those meetings inspired and motivated to keep going.

The Dressmaking Academy has genuinely changed my life. It helped me reconnect to why I fell in love with fashion in the first place — the art, the craftsmanship, and the joy of bringing beauty into the world through dressmaking.
