Eleanor’s Concert Corset: Ready to Dance the Night Away with Ariana Grande
Some pieces are made for a moment, and this lavender rhinestone corset was made for this summer.
My niece Eleanor is heading to the Ariana Grande concert, and when she told me the news, I immediately said: I’m making you a corset. This is actually becoming a bit of a family tradition. I made Eleanor’s cousin, Abby, a corset for the Twice concert, which you can read about here. We had a fun time collaborating on this project. Eleanor gave me full creative freedom when it came to the rhinestones. She is definitely going to sparkle at the concert.
The Fabric
Eleanor chose a gorgeous light purple satin from Mood Fabrics, and the moment it arrived I knew it was exactly right. That soft lavender has a luminous quality that catches the light beautifully, perfect for a night under the stage lights.
The Construction
We designed a straight-neckline corset with two curves, a silhouette that’s both classic and incredibly flattering. The corset features quilted cups for support and shape, lightweight boning throughout for structure, and is finished at the back with grommets and satin ribbon lacing. I used techniques from the Corset with 2 Curves Masterclass at the Dressmaking Academy, a course I highly recommend.
The Sparkle
No corset is complete without some glamour, and this is where Eleanor’s piece truly came alive. I embellished the entire front with rhinestones in an array of shapes and sizes: a dense, jeweled band along the neckline and a scattered constellation of stones across the body.
It got me thinking about Marilyn Monroe, who would have turned 100 years old today, June 1st. There’s something about rhinestones on a structured corset bodice that feels very Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, that same blend of wit, femininity, and unapologetic glamour. Eleanor is going to own that concert floor.
