October 2026: Navy Mikado piqué Corset and Pencil Skirt, Silk Double Georgette Half-Circle Skirt, and Silk Double Georgette Wrap

I’m so excited to share my latest commission, created for my beautiful friend and client, Beth. She’s attending a wedding and wanted something custom-made and special, just for her.

We began with a consultation about the event, the location, the color, and the silhouette she had in mind. She chose navy, a perfect choice that complements her eyes and her overall look. I sketched approximately ten designs, and she fell in love with a corset with a straight neckline, paired with two skirts: a pencil skirt and a half-circle skirt. To finish the look, we decided a wrap would pull everything together.
For the corset and pencil skirt, I found a beautiful navy silk-polyester blend mikado piqué at Mood Fabrics. The corset, pencil skirt, and circle skirt are all lined in navy silk charmeuse from B&J Fabrics in New York City, which was absolutely luxurious. B&J was also where I found the navy silk double georgette for the circle skirt and scarf. I originally planned to use chiffon for the skirt, but I’m so glad I went with the double georgette. It has just a little more weight, which gives the skirt a gorgeous movement.
The corset is built the traditional couture way. Its interior structure is made from coutil, a strong, tightly woven cotton fabric designed specifically for corsetry, and it is supported with steel boning to give the bodice shape, support, and a smooth line. The corset closes at center back with grosgrain ribbon, which allows a precise, adjustable fit and a beautiful finish.

Before cutting into the fashion fabric, I did two fittings in muslin to make sure the fit was perfect. Getting the fit right is everything, and the extra time spent on muslin fittings is always worth it.
My favorite part of dressmaking is seeing the glow on a woman’s face when she puts the dress on.
